Very goodThis book is intriguing Alluring and captivating. I could not put it down. It possessed mystery intrigue and action in equal parts. I really enjoyed it.The only negative was the culmination of this books storyline. The ending contradicted the beginning, if what Cart was told was true, the the beginning had to be written in error. I went back and compared the two. Though that could be a deliberate plot twist being set up for the next book. That or terrible editing and story telling. Unti [...]

Beautiful This story pulls you into places you are sure you understand. Then you reach the end you need the next book. Beautiful.

    3. Sondra says:

Engaging and easy to read, hitting all the great fantasy tropes. Worth your time!

    4. Nancy Matter says:

Good read!Kept me engaged which has been rare lately with any fantasy novel. Well written and fast paced. Good character development without too much angst. Enjoyed it! Buying the next in the series.

    5. Gardavson says:

AGood book. A bit confusing as to the Rashien and who is who besides the A'san. Part of that is intentional, I believe. I'd still like a bit more clarity though. Like the characters. Still room for growth, which i believe will come.

    6. Eddy Archer says:

Enjoyable but not much of a finish Written much better then The Dark Ability books in terms of repetition and explanations (particularly the first 3), but an anticlimactic ending with only small conflicts/ resolutions that leave the book feeling incomplete. As the book is relatively short I don't see the point in breaking this into separate volumes when the story hasnt really made much progress at all. Luckily the main character and her abilities do hold enough interest to encourage you to read [...]

Reviewed by Whitney@Shooting Stars ReviewsShadow Blessed begins with something happening to Carth's parents. She doesn't understand what's going on and why, but she will have to live with some strange people in order to survive so she can get revenge. However, along the way she encounters a lot of twists and things about herself that her parents never spoke about, now she must figure out who to trust before it is too late. This book was really interesting. I loved the Shadow ability that Carth h [...]

    8. Samantha James says:

Although slow paced, at first I felt like there was a reason for it; it wasn't needlessly slow, and it was interesting enough, with enough unanswered questions and small incidents, to keep reading. The writing was slow-burning, and justified in the sense of mystery it imparted. The feeling I got was that this was an origin story of sorts - how Carth discovered her powers, and learned to understand them, but the actual story will begin in the next book. However, after finishing the book I was lef [...]

    9. Danielle says:

Well. I liked Carth's relationship with her parents. I liked that within the first chapter, we are dropped right into the action. But, honestly, after that it kind of stagnates a bit.I can't say that I enjoyed this book very much. It dragged on too long without giving the reader any answers, then dropped an unsatisfactory and out-of-nowhere twist at the very end. The reader can't even take a guess at what is going on, because not enough information is given about this alternate world and context [...]

    10. Stephen says:

The A'ras of Nyaesh have a terrifying reputation: skilled swordsmen, owners of powerful magic, and ruthless killers. When they kill her parents, Carth discovers her parents had trained her for magic she never knew she possessed. She must use the skills they taught to stay alive, discover a way to find answers, and avenge them if she can. Only the discovery of a greater threat than the A'ras forces her to risk herself for new friends and a home she never wanted. This is one of those books which m [...]

Cat and mouse gameThis was a slow set up to a pretty good cat and mouse game. City life through the eyes of a 12 year old orphan girl who has special abilities that she has no idea how to use. No clear enemy so you have no idea who to trust. It was a brilliant set up. It all co as to a head in the last couple of chapters. Be patient and you are rewarded with a pretty good set hip to the rest of the books. I look forward to seeing where this all leads. In love a strong female protagonist. I think [...]

    12. Marie says:

Great story!I have read many of this author's books and I have enjoyed all of them very much. This one is no exception! I wish more people would read his books. He is very talented and the world's he creates and the stories really are appealing. This book is perfectly clean and I am starting immediately on the next one!

    13. Jessie Mckissick says:

A really good Ya book!I thought this book had an intriguing plot, with a lot of depth and a strong cast of characters. Emotional and gratifying. This book is an excellent series for adults also. Masterful writing.

    14. Jenika Ioffreda says:

Free download from . The very nice cover caught my eye and I decided to give the book a try. It started quite well, but after a while I lost interest in the characters and I stopped reading altogether.

    15. John Maynard says:

Good storyGod story, characters are good and sympathetic. Watch the mystery begin and continue to an ending that brings more questions. I will !likely read the rest of the series.

    16. Daniel says:

Worth checking out. Interesting enough to want to read the next book.

    17. Scott Voyles says:

Good storylineThis is the backstory to a character from another series. This gives you the beginnings of how she became trained

    18. T Ward says:

Fun to readA good easy read. Would've been good to get a bit more action in it rather than alot of learning but it's a good lead into the next book and I still enjoyed it.

    19. CK says:

Good readQuick, fast paced. Main character is a little young but I wasn't bothered by that. I'm buying the next book to see we happens.

    20. Abraham Ashley says:

DecentInteresting plot, but weak character development. For a new author its a great start and I look for word to seeing the writing style develop.

    21. Kenneth Galloway says:

Child's perspective of epic fantasyI really appreciate that we never stray from Carth as the eyes and ears of the story unfolding. You never hear enough to know what's happening.

    22. Oy Geeringh says:

Wow! fast pace full of actions and leaving you wanting more.

    23. Sheila Ryals says:

😻Was a very good book kinda needed that after some of th he ones I just read. I needed something to get lost in

    24. Dominic Aragon says:

GreatIt took me awhile to really get into the story but once I did I couldn't get enough. Now on to the next book.

    25. Naticia says:

A light, easy-read fantasy with some interesting ideas but no real depth. Good for a mindless few hours, which is sometimes all you want.

    26. Jim Galford says:

This series opens with Carth's parents murdered. She begins to utilize magic instilled in her and seek allies in her fight to avenge their deaths.

    27. Lorie Douglas says:

Fascinating storyOriginal plot, compelling characters, life and death drama, morals vs sinlove it! I highly recommend this book! Bring on book 2

    28. Jennifer Marie says:

You ever start a book, are really into, lose some interest part way through, then get really interested again? That was kind of this book for me. I NEVER knew where it was going and I think that's part of why I got a little frustrated in the middle. I knew it was part of a series and that there was a lot of information that would come, but I couldn't fathom where the story was going.I did enjoy it though. It's a first book, we got to meet the characters, set the scene, and be tempted to learn mo [...]

    29. Stephanie Bolen says:

Too many unanswered questionsThis is more a prologue than an actual plot. Only three things of more happen. She may have the potiental of characters from this book showing up later, but a sentence of exposition is not worth reading this entire book. Would have much rather she been an adult tackling the politics of the world than a clueless child. Origin stories are good but you have to leave with a sense of what the world is about and who the key players are. I guess that's for the next book.

    30. Caidy says:

Enjoyed this a lotFun and interesting read. I'm excited to read more ruin this author and follow Carth through her journey. Very clever story line and great delivery of details, enough to keep me interested and avoid unnecessary confusion, but enough withheld to keep the mystery and prevent boredom.
