Creating these six holiday tales, some written during the months far away from the actual Christmas season, was a pleasure. I hope you enjoy the characters (their journey through this sleigh-bell world), and the stories they tell as much as I did.

Having read Justin Bog’s previous books, I kind of knew not to expect anything from the book while picking it up. The author always takes a new road and forges his own path with his unique style of storytelling. There are six stories in the collection. In ‘Hark’ a police officer looks back on how one event changed his life forever. The next story, ‘Seducing Santa’, tells us about a woman daydreaming about her very own Santa. ‘Bracelet’ is about a misplaced gift and the relationship [...]

I was lucky enough to read an advance copy of Hark---A Christmas Collection. I absolutely loved it. So often, the holidays make us feel if we're not completely happy all the time, then something is wrong with us. Justin's characters seem like real people, with real issues, ranging from losing a loved one to dealing with a debilitating injury, to a slow descent into insanity. But the overriding theme among all the stories, really, becomes hope, compassion for others, compassion for self, and mayb [...]

HARK - A CHRISTMAS COLLECTION by Justin Bog is a collection of short Christmas stories that make this anything but your typical holiday romp. Like a box of chocolates, some are better than others but each is honest, real and touched my heart. I laughed out loud, got a little teary, a little melancholy mix of emotions were stirred in this quick read. And that's author Justin Bog's gift! Well done. Many set in the Pacific Northwest. Anacortes WA!

Originally posted on Book-o-Craze, on a tour hosted by Sage's Blog Tours. This is an unusual Christmas collection of short stories! He tends to be thinking about all the dreams he had befor [...]

***HARK will touch your mind and your heart***HARK brings us six wonderful stories that occur at Christmastime. Unlike many books about this time of year, Mr. Bog’s collection pays tribute to the season without being melodramatic or candy-cane sweet. In the lead-off story, “Hark,” a police officer replays an event that changed his life forever. Just as Christmas marks time each year, so do the memories and consequences of his tragedy. “Hark” is a strong lesson in our inability to change [...]

Title: Hark: A Christmas CollectionAuthor: Justin BogPublisher: The Author's AdvocateReviewed By: Arlena DeanRating: Five Review:"Hark: A Christmas Collection" by Justin BogMy Thoughts. What a wonderful Christmas collection of six short stories that will keep you turning the pages being of a read that will put the reader in and touch your heart. I loved how as one read through each story you will be able to feel the emotions [happy, sad, in between and thought provoking] that so many people feel [...]

My ReviewWhile I read the title, I was all set to have a fun, light read. So I started the book lazily. I was expecting a stout bubbly Santa with funny fairy tales. But once the stories unveiled, I realized that the book is not a Santa but a six fingered monster. Instead of tender tales I saw stark realities. Like the fingers in our hand each story varies in style, length, depth and purpose.Real lives of people in trouble, pain, happiness, anger, all the same. Since it is a short story collectio [...]

    9. Maria says:

This is not your usual Christmas collection of stories. There are no tales of magic and miracles to be found. In this book, the author has collected together short stories that show another side of Christmas. An equally important side. There are people who, for whatever reason, may not be enjoying the Christmas season, and these stories looks at a few examples. Christmas comes every year and, therefore, brings with it memories. In 'Hark' you will find stories of regret, loneliness, fear, pain. T [...]

There was something quite lovely about reading a collection of Christmas stories wholly unique to Christmas stories; they weren’t sickly sweet. Don’t get me wrong, I love the romantic, Scrooge redeeming, Wonderful Life, toy making stories that are so common this time of year. But that’s not all that Christmas is about and I think these stories keep in mind the vast number of people for whom Christmas is a complicated time. There is a warmth in Justin Bog’s writing but, to me, it doesn’t [...]

In this Christmas story, we have six different well written and thought out stories. They are not your tis the season stories. Their about the reality for some people at this time of year, not everyone enjoys this time. Justin is real in his characters and story lines. I'm not saying their all dark stories, some are happy with realty in them. Candycanes, stocking and presents isn't what it's all about for some. I think there is a lot of people who can resonate with this book. I adored all the st [...]

"Christmas Dreams and Memories"This is a collection of six short stories relating to memories, emotions, and losses during Christmas holidays. It's not always a holiday some people can face as happy as others, and these stories reflect these types of tales."HARK" It's Christmas time, the town tree is up in a haphazard fashion. Children will be decorating the lower branches of the tree in Harbor Springs, Michigan. A former police officer is in a motorized wheel chair and thanks to his wife. Colle [...]

MY THOUGHTS This isn't your usual book of Christmas stories. No sugar coating and everything's good stories. Just plain everyday life stories around the Christmas season. Christmas can bring back bad memories each year and this happened in the first story about a police officer. The author gives a lesson to go with each story and the lesson is that you can't change the past, live for now and hope tomorrow will be better. The author gives the reader a bit of Christmas romance with Santa in a roma [...]

I love Christmas themed books. There is something about them, that draws me. The cheery spirits, the happiness, the general feeling of everything being in place. Of course, nothing can be better than reading a Christmas book during the Christmas season. So when Sage asked me if I wanted to review Justin Bog’s book, I was all for it.Having said that, Hark — A Christmas Collection, is a different sort of Christmas book. It is a beautifully written set of 6 stories, each of them exploring the v [...]

This is the first time I have come across this author.Due to the time of year, the cover & because I am a sucker for Christmas stories I gave it a go.If you are looking for schmaltzy feel good light reading this isn’t for you, it is a selection of down to earth sometimes achingly painful stark accounts of life around the festive season. Don’t get me wrong there are some bitter-sweet moments with romance & a little humour included.Because it’s split into separate stories it is ideal [...]

    17. Jessica Bronder says:

This is a collection of six stories revolving around Christmas. But the part I loved is the variety of emotions that is brought into each one. Most people think of Christmas and think of wonderful family gatherings, parties, and presents. This is not true for everyone and this collection of stories shows that really well. This is a great collection that has a police officer reliving a turning point in his life, how adults can affect children, and a Christmas party full of tension.I won’t say t [...]

    18. Harriet says:

I loved each of these stories. They’re not the typical Christmas tales with saccharine happy endings, but a collection of characters and situations that are “true” and, as a result, resonate with the complexities of the characters and their situations. I was hooked by each of these stories, from the resolution of Callie’s panicky dilemma in “The Bracelet” through Arlene’s haunting search for self in “Everyone Wants Me To,” to the party-goers in “Snow Globe.” Bog is a fine w [...]

    19. Sage Adderley-Knox says:

Getting cozy with a blanket and reading Hark is a pretty magical way to welcome in the winter season. This collection is made up of six short stories from protagonists coming from all different walks of life. They’ve experienced some heavy life experiences and readers follow them along as they celebrate or for some, survive, Christmas. My favorite short story was Bracelet. I love the depth of the characters and the emotions it evoked as I read each page. It really made me feel all the feelings. [...]

Not your usual saccharine sweet collection of happily-ever-after Christmas stories. Justin Bog writes realistic stories that make you think - stories that are probably more true to life than the typical la-la, feel good tales that are standard holiday fare. I appreciate Justin's willingness to delve in to the sometimes not so happy side of holidays, family and life while still leaving the reader with the possibility of redemption, a happier ending, and an inkling of hope.I look forward to readin [...]

A beautifully written collection of Christmas stories that draw strong emotion. Some of the stories are bittersweet but all have a great message to share. I love that the stories are a bit non traditional as it gives a sense of reality rather than a sugar coated version of the holiday. It is certainly a reminder to look to your neighbor during the season. A good read.
