      Don't fall for the cover of certain editions of The Defiant. This is an engrossing story that makes me want to scream, as someone of Irish ancestry and knowledge of the next few hundred years. The story revolves around Rory O'Donnell, the second son of the clan head, Deirdre, the wife of the O'Hara clan head, and Elizabeth Cecil, a member of the powerful Cecil family.If you want an engrossing saga, then this is a good one. Historical fiction and a little bit of romance.

      I think this was a great, fun read with a lot of history interwoven, and plan to read the sequels which tell the story of Ireland's sad history from the time of Queen Elizabeth forward.
