A new cozy mystery series by Ms. Bartal. Sadie has gone home to Virginia for the funeral of her Aunt Abby, the neighbor of her childhood who always supported her. Abby leaves a letter for Sadie asking her to find who murdered her!The female lead, Sadie, is a beautiful, fashionable, saavy young woman who hides her hurts behind a smile. The male lead Luke is a geeky, nerd who blames Sadie for changing after puberty and snipes at her when he gets the chance, but is always there when she needs him.

Nothing could compel Sadie Cooper back to her hometown, back to the father she can't get along with and the best friend she betrayed--nothing but death. When her beloved neighbor and mentor dies, Sadie returns home in disgrace after humiliating herself in front of the nation. She intends to stop at home, pay her respects, and start anew somewhere else. But then the will is read, and Abby has left something unusual for Sadie in her will--a request to solve her murder. Luke Sawyer has finally put [...]

I loved this book. The twists of humor and tragedy all rolled together. Sadie is a strong willed woman with a softness inside that is kept hidden. She clashes with her father and her old best friend. She is forced to come back to town when her beloved aunt dies. The development of the characters is interesting and what makes them tick. It is written from Sadie point of view but you also get the inside view of her ex best friend. The sense of humor I love, I laughed many times during this story w [...]

This is the first of a cozy mystery series; A Sadie Cooper Mystery. I think it is going to be worth the reads. Sadie and Luke are kids who grew up together in a neighborhood with their parents and "Aunt" Abbey living next door. One gets to know Sadie and Luke and their trials and tribulations quite well. The plot is interesting and as much as I read cozies - I was surprised at the end. I like the characters and the book ended with me wanting to read the next in the series, so I could know them b [...]

What a strange, yet wonderful book. There is so much going on here, it's hard to comment. It seems almost trite at first, but the writing and psychology of the main characters it so complex, so intense, you finally realize there is so much going on in this story. After all that, I'm really not sure how I feel about the story. Rated it high since it made be think and feel emotions that the books I've been reading lately have failed to illicit.

    8. Glenda says:
